Opportunities to explore

The Symposium’s base at Brock University in St. Catharines offers a wonderful opportunity for professionals from cool climate wine regions around the world to meet, exchange ideas and taste wine along the stunning backdrop of the Niagara Peninsula.

As the ICCWS is more than just a conference, there will be vineyard/winery visits, opportunities to dine at renowned restaurants in Niagara and the surrounding area, and of course, evening networking events and dinners. A trade show will also take place during the week of programming.

Unique Canadian elements will also be highlighted throughout the symposium, offering guests the chance to learn more about the ICCWS 2022 host country and the people who live and work here.

The symposium is working closely in partnership with Niagara Falls tourism and other local industries and businesses to provide our international delegates with unique opportunities to truly explore all that our region has to offer. Those wishing to extend their stay in Canada during the conference period will also have the option to engage in pre-and-post conference activities that will allow them to explore other wine regions across the country, as well.

Explore the Niagara Region

Known as the “Garden City,” St. Catharines is surrounded by lush orchards and vineyards to the east and west, and bordered by the Niagara Escarpment to the south and Lake Ontario to the north. Made up of diverse communities, rural landscapes and unspoiled nature, the region is also surrounded by two Great Lakes and the mighty Niagara River.

A short drive off the highway, conference host Brock University is centrally located and in close proximity to many of the region’s wineries (offering world-class touring experiences) and craft breweries, as well as a thriving arts, music and theatre scene, festivals, attractions, night clubs, pubs, and renowned farm-to-table culinary destinations.

For those who enjoy the great outdoors, there are numerous beaches to visit and a variety of recreational trails to explore, including the Bruce Trail (Canada’s oldest and longest marked footpath) which directly intersects Brock’s campus.

Brock University is also situated within an hour’s drive to the City Centre of Toronto, a 20-minute drive to the historic Niagara Falls tourism district, the culture of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the United States border.

Experience the mighty roar of Niagara Falls while riding the Hornblower boat tour below the falls or when journeying behind the falls, enjoy the attractions and the bustle of Clifton Hill, or do some shopping at the nearby Outlet Collection at Niagara mall, the region’s largest retail outlet featuring many designers at discount prices.

Located in the cradle of Canadian history, Niagara is also dotted with landmarks that recognize the nation’s story and celebrate Canada’s heritage, such as being a safe haven on the Underground Railway. Guests are encouraged to visit the area’s military forts, historic homes and museums of the War of 1812, as well as the monument that bears the University’s namesake, Maj.-Gen. Sir Isaac Brock.
